Is Anthracode really free?
Yes. The complete app is free and open source, with no paid feature tier. You may still pay an AI provider for model usage, just as you would when using that provider directly.
Which models can I use for free?
You can run compatible local models at no model cost and use cloud providers that publish free models or free usage tiers. Availability and limits are controlled by each provider and can change.
Do I need an API key?
Not always. Local models may need no key, and some providers support browser-based OAuth. For standard paid API access, bring a key from your provider. Anthracode stores credentials locally.
Can I use an AI subscription I already pay for?
Yes, when the provider officially supports OAuth access from third-party developer tools. Current compatible options include ChatGPT Plus, GitHub Copilot, and GitLab Duo. A consumer subscription is not automatically an API key, and unsupported subscriptions cannot be used.
Does Anthracode take a cut of model usage?
No. Anthracode does not operate a paid model gateway or add a service fee. Any usage charge comes from the provider account you connect.
